I was thinking about which actually came first the record or the concert.
When you started collecting your vinyl were you more likely to buy a certain groups records after you saw and heard them in concert or were you buying the music and that increased the chances of you attending a certain groups concert?
I do realize that back in the day that most vinyl music purchases were greatly influenced by radio station airplay and dj’s talking about the music. But with that in mind the question is still there in my mind, which influenced which?
When I started thinking about this as it related to me a lot of memories were generated some good, some great and some bad and then carrying that whole thought process a step further by trying to sort it out as to which really did come first. I finally did determine that if I saw a group in concert and I did like them I would go out and purchase more of their music and my collection would grow. If I went to a concert and for whatever reason the group was poor not only did I not purchase anymore of their records but I had a tendency to tune them out if I happened to be listening to the radio and one of their songs came on.
Have you been thinking about the original question? Hard to answer isn’t it? But I reasonably certain that you agree it is really a true memory shaker.
In reality going to a concert and enjoying what you heard motivated additional purchases of that groups records. If you had purchased a certain groups music and you had a chance to see them the chances got better that you would want to attend a concert to see them.
Now that we have gone through all that I think the question, which actually came first the vinyl record or the concert is still up for discussion but then who really cares you just have to love vinyl.
